ATHLETICS WINTER COACHING 2011

Dear athlete,

I would like to congratulate you on this season’s success and offer you the opportunity of looking to develop your chosen discipline(s) further with the proposed winter coaching for 2011. Several of the top coaches in the County are willing to support your development over the winter months, meeting on a regular Sunday training session from October to March at Sheepmount Carlisle and one other possible venue to be decided. The sessions will be held on the second Sunday of the month the second Sunday.

The Junior athletic session for school years 6, 7 and 8 students will run from 10am. until noon. The 4 disciplines on offer will be sprinting ,middle distance, jumping and throwing. Students engaged in this event will be encouraged to pursue one of the disciplines through the winter. In the afternoon there will also be the opportunity to come along and try pole vaulting.

The Senior session is available to all athletes from 14-23 years of age

The afternoon session will run from 12.30 to 3pm.During this time athletes will opt into discipline specific areas when the following will hopefully all be available. Sprints, middle distance, shot putt, javelin, hammer, discus, long, high and triple jump. The final decision will be determined by the number of athletes in attendance. We shall require a minimum of 6 athletes to make each discipline viable.

Coaching experience

At the same time we are encouraging adults who are interested in coaching to come along with a view to furthering their knowledge and enable then to get onto the coaching ladder. Those people with a level one qualification would be particularly welcome to further their knowledge.

There is then potential funding of up to 60% to support the level 2 or 3 grade coaching.  It is hoped that potential coaches will become hands on and work with the main coaches assisting in the delivery furthering their knowledge and enabling the logging of coaching hours.

.

There will be a charge of £30.00 per per athlete to cover the overall costs. Cheques should accompany your application and should be made payable to Cumbria Coaching Academy.

Yours faithfully
